Walkabots is a location based collection game designed for iPhone and Android. In the game, you go out and explore the real world in search of Walkabots.

This project was started after meeting a brilliant illustrator, Paul who had all these characters inside, just waiting to be drawn. Inspired by this unique artwork, I thought it could work well in a Real-Life Pokemon. I had developed a fascination with location based gaming after my brother got me hooked on StreetPass. I found myself wanting to go out of the house to explore, just to see if I could meet other people to StreetPass with. I was hoping to capture this sense of worldly exploration and combine it with the feeling of anticipation (the feeling you get when you open a fresh pack of trading cards).

These Walkabots can be found in restaurants, at train stations or even in the park. They come out in different weather, seasons and times of the day. I really wanted to try and give the sensation that your phone becomes a Walkabot attractor and different things you do with your phone and when you do them could potentially attract different Walkabots.

With the backing of a wonderful team that I met when we pitched this idea at Startup Weekend Sydney, I’m hoping to have something ready to show at Avcon 2013.
